My Final Assignment for my Typography and Information Design Class was focused on creating a map that utilized attractive illustrated components and organized information display.
I've lived in Utica, NY for nearly a year and a half. Coming here from a completely different country made everything confusing and unfamiliar. Even now I wouldn't say that I now know all of Utica or even Downtown Utica but It had definitely been an experience.
The aim of this map is to create a guide for newcomers and tourists that are new to Utica and want to check out the Downtown area. I wanted it to be bright and inviting to make the idea of exploring a new place exciting.

The area of the map was designed based on the zoning map of utica. The chosen area for my map is designated as the maroon/ the business district.
This is the original layout and plan for the map before changing it up to focus more on the map than the key.
The Lamp post with the sweater is based on my actual experience where I saw a colony of lamp posts in colorful knitted sweaters.
I set up my swatch of colors before starting the project on illustrator because I wanted to stick to a limited number of colors while using a bright colorful palate.
